AFTER MIDNIGHT is a celebration of Harlem’s Cotton Club where legendary performers including Bessie Smith, Lena Horne, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Fletcher Henderson, Billie Holliday and Ethel Waters performed during the venue’s 1930s and 1940s heydays. A 2014 Tony nominee for Best Musical, After Midnight comes to the beautiful Norwegian Escape directly from Broadway including the spectacular Tony nominated costumes, designed by famed Cuban-American duo Ruben and Isabel Toledo, as well as the original Tony nominated sound and lighting designs. Warren Carlyle’s Tony award winning choreography includes references to famous African American performers such as the Nicholas Brothers as well as contemporary hip hop moves – all underscored by a live 8 piece band. Originally conceived by Jack Viertel and Wynton Marsalis’ Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, After Midnight is a ravishing tribute to African American art and the performance culture of the Harlem Renaissance. Performance Salary: Leads starting at $1,100.00 USD/Weekly, Ensemble Starting at $900.00 USD/Weekly

SEEKING

We strive to select cast members who are not only talented performers, but who also embody the high standard of service that defines Norwegian Cruise Line’s Entertainment Division. All cast members must be personable, outgoing, self-motivated, and someone who thrives in a social environment when with our guests.

Early 20s-Late 30s. Seeking powerhouse vocalists, who can sing in the style of contemporary musical theatre, R&B, and jazz. Ability to learn tight harmonies essential. Must have excellent performance quality, and move extremely well.

HOST

20’s to 45, 5’10 – 6’3 male vocalist, second tenor to G, a sexy, charismatic, leading man; must take us on a journey through the physical and vocal world of the performers of After Midnight; strong actor and terrific singer with jazz skills; played by Dulé Hill on Broadway. [Lead]

QUARTET LEADER

30’s to 50’s, 5’6 – 6’2 male vocalist tenor to an A, comedic, charismatic man; must have solid movement skills, be great with jazz harmony and have a strong sense of blend; played by Everett Bradley on Broadway. [Ensemble]

QUARTET 2/3

20’s to 40’s, 5’6 – 6’2 male vocalists. falsetto to D; must have solid movement skills, be great with jazz harmony and have a strong sense of blend. [Ensemble]

QUARTET BASS

20’s to 40’s, 5’6 – 6’2 male vocalist, bass baritone to low D; must have solid movement skills, be great with jazz harmony and have a strong sense of blend. [Ensemble]

TRIO CREOLE

20s to 35, 5’2 – 5’9 female vocalist, mezzo soprano low Ab to high Bb, strong understanding of jazz music and technique. Must be able to blend well in a trio, as well as be able to give a knock out solo performance. Looking for ladies with lots of personality and spunk. Played by Carmen Ruby Floyd on Broadway (solo is "Creole Love Song"). [Ensemble]

TRIO BLUES / WOMEN

20s to 35, 5’2 – 5’9 female vocalists, alto/mezzo soprano, low F to belted Bb or C, mix/soprano to an F; must have a strong understanding of jazz music and technique. Must be able to blend well in a trio, as well as be able to give a knock out solo performances. Looking for ladies with lots of personality and spunk, with the ad-lib comedic improvisational style of Alberta Hunter, Pearl Bailey and Ethel Waters. Solos are “Women Be Wise” and “Go Back Where You Stayed Last Night.” These women fill the (combined) tracks played by Adriane Lenox, Rosena M. Hill Jackson and Bryonha Marie Parham on Broadway.
